Cheaper Ways to Get to and Around Amsterdam
Have you always wanted to go to Amsterdam, but thought that the trip would be too expensive? Let’s break the stereotypes and examine affordable ways to get to the dream city and have a good time there!
Cheaper by plane
Nowadays traveling by plane is becoming more affordable thankfully to low cost airlines spreading all over Europe. Although flying with them often means less comfort (or you have to pay extra for all the comforts added), it can be a good and cheaper option to get from point A to Amsterdam. Here is a list of European low cost airlines that offer attractive deals to the Dutch capital: easyJet, Eurowings, Flybe, Norwegian, Transavia and Vueling. It is a great idea to check all of them when planning your trip to the charming city, as the offers vary hugely per departing airport. Of course, getting even lower prices with them is more likely when flying mid-week and during the low season (spring and autumn). These airlines will bring you directly to Schipol Airport located at a stone’s throw from Amsterdam.
There are two more airlines that might be even lower-priced than the already mentioned ones: Ryanair and Wizzair. The trick with these two is that they will carry you only to Eindhoven (a lovely city around 120 km away from Amsterdam). It is still not a problem, as reliable Dutch trains will bring you to your final destination in no time. Don’t limit yourself to only low cost airlines, when searching for a cheap flight to Amsterdam, as sometimes regular companies have special offers too. Cheaper by bus
In case you prefer to go by land instead of flying, there are some affordable bus carriers that operate around Europe. Trains are usually more expensive (yes, they can be faster too!) and unless you have a special pass, group ticket, or you found a deal of a lifetime, then European buses will be a better buy. Cheaper local public transport
It is not a secret that public transport is expensive in the Netherlands (no wonder why everybody rides their bikes!), but there are some tricks that can save you money. It’s all about planning, so you might need to think about your activities first before you go for one of these options to see whether it will be worth getting them.
